LIPOSUCTION
Liposuction is an effective means of improving body contour by removing unwanted fat from thighs, abdomen, flanks, back, arms, chin, and chest, using minimal incisions. Liposuction is not for weight reduction, but a method for removing pockets of fat that do not respond to weight loss.
Is Liposuction Right For Me?
The best candidates are healthy people with firm elastic skin who have well defined pockets of fat. Age is not a factor, although older patients have less elasticity in their skin and may not achieve the same results. The biggest drawback with liposuction occurs in an individual with poor skin quality. They may have excess saggy skin after the procedure.

The Procedure
Dr. Nitta prefers using general anesthesia for liposuction procedures as it is safe and requires less local anesthesia. Once the patient is asleep, a few small incisions are made. A tumescent solution is then administered through these incisions and a Vaser cannula is used to melt the fat. Next, a liposuction cannula is inserted to remove the melted fat. Once fat removal is completed, the incisions are sutured closed and covered with a plastic dressing. The area treated is also fitted and wrapped in a compression garment prior to leaving the operating room.
Recovery
Depending on what part of the body received liposuction, Spanx may be worn instead. Patients should expect to experience pain for the first 24-48 hours, and pain is proportional to the amount of fat removed. Medication will be prescribed to help manage any discomfort.
Results from the procedure will be immediately noticeable and will continue to improve over the course of a year. If you’re happy with how you look one week after surgery, you will be even happier by the 6-month mark.
