Moms, let’s get real. Children are a blessing and a gift, but pregnancy and childbirth are not always nice to our bodies. Even if you take care of yourself, eating right and exercising religiously, “sagging” seems to be the status quo. Breasts that were full and curvy while you were expecting are now droopy and deflated. You might even have sagging skin on your belly that wasn’t there before.
If you’ve decided you don’t want to keep your badges of motherhood, then you might want to consider a mommy makeover. This customized cosmetic surgery is designed to help you get your body back, restoring your figure to the way you remember it back in your pre-baby days. Since your mommy makeover is tailored to your needs, Dr. Nitta will help you decide what procedures would be best for you.
What’s Involved in a Mommy Makeover?
The great thing about your mommy makeover is that it’s truly customized to your needs! Most patients concentrate on three areas: breasts, tummy, and hips. A growing number of women are also choosing feminine rejuvenation procedures as part of their mommy makeovers. The 4 top mommy makeover procedures are:
- Breast Lift/Augmentation: With or without implants, a breast lift can undo the less-than-desirable changes brought on by pregnancy and breastfeeding, giving you firmer, more youthful breasts.
- Tummy Tuck: If your abdominal muscles have stretched or you have excess skin hanging around, an abdominoplasty can tighten your tummy so you can feel confident in a bikini once again.
- Liposuction: Baby fat isn’t only for the little one. Liposuction can enhance your mommy makeover, creating a beautiful contour to your hips, belly, and thighs.
- Feminine Rejuvenation: Let’s face it – childbirth is rough on our bodies. If you’re feeling less than great about your body down there, Dr. Nitta offers Labiaplasty procedures to help correct the outside appearance of the genital region.
Recovery from a Mommy Makeover
As a mom, naturally you are concerned with how any surgery will affect your family, particularly your ability to care for your little ones after your procedure. As every mommy makeover is tailored to an individual patient’s needs, the recovery process is a little different for everyone. In general, you’ll need to have help around the house 24/7 for 2-3 days after surgery (more if you’ve had a tummy tuck). Patients are kept overnight at the surgery center, and many times patients stay at an aftercare facility for a few more days so that they can recover without the stress of daily family life. For our out of town patients, Dr. Nitta has arrangements with local hotels for discounted rates to make a longer stay more comfortable.
While most patients can begin their return to daily activities (such as driving, light housework, a desk job, and shopping) within 2-3 weeks, you’ll probably need continued assistance with heavier lifting and strenuous aspects of childcare for the first 4-6 weeks. After this time, with the doctor’s approval, you can lift your kids again.
As with any plastic surgery procedure, you’ll have some scars after a mommy makeover. By choosing an experienced, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, you can be sure that your surgeon has the skill and knowledge to produce the least amount of scarring possible. Moreover, your scars will fade over time and will be in places that are easily hidden by clothing – even a bikini. Dr. Nitta also uses Embrace® scar dressing after surgery on her tummy tucks to help with wound healing.
